How to Use
A Classroom Full of Happiness
Independent Activities
Each child picks one card from the pile. The card gives them a small task or thought to focus on throughout the day.
An Activity Card, for example, might say: ‘Give someone a compliment today.’
A Reflection Card encourages children to think about topics such as a growth mindset, personal development, social skills, creativity, dreams and self-awareness.
At the end of the day, you can take a moment to reflect together on how the children experienced their activity or reflection.
The great thing about using the cards this way is that it takes very little extra time for you as a teacher.

Conversations Together
Place one card in the wooden card holder provided and use the question or activity as a starting point for a class discussion. You can also link it to a drawing, craft or writing activity.
Children share their own ideas and experiences, listen to one another and often discover surprising things about their classmates. This leads to meaningful conversations and lovely moments of understanding and connection.
In Small Groups
Choose a selection of question cards and divide them among small groups.
The children take turns picking a card and answering the question. If a child would rather not answer, that's absolutely fine! They can simply say ‘pass’ and pick another card from the pile.
This is an easy and enjoyable way for children to get to know one another better, while creating opportunities for more meaningful conversations.
Tip: Use a lolly stick as a talking stick, so everyone knows whose turn it is to speak.

The Compliment Keyring
Inside the box, you'll also find the Compliment keyring. This is a fun way to encourage children to give thoughtful compliments and discover how lovely it feels to receive them.
Secret Mission
Before the school day begins, secretly place the compliment keyring in one child's drawer. This child becomes the Compliment Hero for the day and must keep it a secret. Their mission? To give genuine compliments to other children throughout the day.
Who is the Compliment Hero?
The rest of the class has a mission too: to work out who the Compliment Hero is that day!
At the end of the day, the children can guess who they think it is. Ask them why they think so, giving them the chance to share any compliments they received.
The Compliment Hero then reveals their identity and returns the hanger to you. This is also a lovely opportunity to give the Compliment Hero a compliment of their own.
A Shower of Compliments
You'll often notice something good happening during the secret mission: other children start giving compliments too! They want their classmates to think that they might be the Compliment Hero.
Before you know it, your classroom could be filled with a shower of compliments!
Tip
Before starting, talk to the class about the different types of compliments they can give. You could use the card ‘Give someone a compliment today’ as a starting point.
Keep track of who has already had the Compliment Hanger using your class list, so everyone gets an equal number of turns.
Good to Know
What if a child spots the Compliment keyring in someone else's drawer? They might be tempted to tell their classmates!
Agree beforehand that if someone discovers who has the hanger, they can tell you, but should keep it a secret from the rest of the class.
That way, the identity of the Compliment Hero stays a mystery for a little longer!

“The card set sparks lovely conversations. One child picked the card ‘Give your teacher a compliment today’, and I received such a sweet compliment. Just what I needed at that moment!
The compliment hanger encourages children to give each other lovely compliments in the classroom.”
Simone de Wit – Primary School Teacher
“I’m a children’s coach at a primary school, and I started using the card set the very next day. I select five cards beforehand and place them face down on the table. The child then gets to choose a card.
It’s a fun and effective way to start a coaching session and leads to a different kind of conversation with the child.
I now use the cards every week and I’m very happy with them. Thank you!”
